The two RTX 2080 cards use a pair of on-card connectors, a six-pin and an eight-pin, to sip off your power supply (PSU). This is all at a performance-per-watt increase of 1.9 times, mind you.Īs for the ordinary ports, both Founders Edition cards get you one HDMI output and three DisplayPorts, The only difference there is that the RTX 2000 series cards use HDMI 2.0 as opposed to the HDMI 2.1 in the RTX 3080. That's 183 percent more CUDA for the same price, plus two more gigabytes of the all-new GDDR6X memory, which doubles the bandwidth of the previous version thanks to more intelligent signal-transmission techniques. It shoots up from 3,072 in both the original RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Super, to a whopping 8,704 in the RTX 3080. One of the main spec increases to mention in this lineup is in CUDA cores. This does technically make it the cheaper of the two options, but not in a way that anyone can guarantee, outside of the trust you have between yourself and a random person selling GPUs on the internet. This means that any remaining stock will be sold through, and the only suppliers left will either be third-party sellers or eBay (where the RTX 2080 Super card can already be found for a Buy It Now price of $525 if you're looking hard enough). The GeForce RTX 2080 Super is still on shelves and technically still retails for $699, though it's been reported that the GeForce RTX 2080 Super, the RTX 2070 Super, and the RTX 2080 Ti have all been discontinued as of last month. So, all the RTX 3080 Founders Edition has to do is beat the RTX 2080 Super, and it's already a winner in our book! For lack of a better option, this makes the RTX 2080 Super the card most likely to be usurped by the RTX 3080 in buyers' minds the RTX 2080 was already deprecated by the RTX 2080 Super. But until the launch of the RTX 3080, it was the only option you'd find sitting at Nvidia's recommended MSRP of $699. Unfortunately, the RTX 2080 Super didn't offer the same level of performance gains over the original RTX 2080 as the RTX 2070 Super did over the original RTX 2070. It also set expectations for the pricing of the "Ampere" cards. But it set a standard of expectation for what customers should expect when they "go Super": a lower price, with more performance. The RTX 2070 Super was likely just a "binned," or reclassed, RTX 2080 in disguise. Turns out this speedup was possible because the two cards weren't even based on the same die. (The non-Super RTX 2070 launched at $599, but the RTX 2070 Super came in at just $499, while also increasing the performance of the card around 15 percent.) Likewise, when the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super was released, it came in below the MSRP of the original Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition. The Super phenomenon also affected the relative pricing within the RTX line the RTX 2080 Super launched at $699, $100 lower than the non-Super. Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition Review Only its pricing and the lack of games supporting ray tracing and DLSS keep it from being a grand slam right from launch. Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition ReviewĪn exceptionally powerful graphics card, the GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition is a home run for gaming at 4K or high refresh rates. If you’re a current (or aspiring) 4K gamer, Nvidia's ferocious, field-redefining GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card is the only one worth considering.
